Even though I repotted this American Beech only one year ago, I opted for a repot again this spring because of the following reasons.
- The planting angle was off, being slightly inclined while I wanted a perfectly vertical trunk.
- The training pot limited the lateral growth of roots.
- I want to create a spreading nebari very typical of beeches in the shallow soil of our temperate forests.
Building the box
I recycled wood pieces from a bed base and 2x3s to build this grow box at low cost. The drainage is enabled by the gap left between the bed slats.
Repotting
Mix of coarse chabasai, haydite, perlite and biochar.
A promising nebari.
There is plenty of room for radial root growth this time.
Final result
Front view. A straight line.
Left view. The tree is very lightly inclined towards the viewer.
