Spring is a good time to work on larches, as they tend be rather full when they wear their dense foliage.
Here is the tree coming out of cold storage
First I cut the trunk section above a small branch that I raised last year to become the new apex. A few branches were wired and the banch junctions are reduced to two.
After styling
The branch near the ground was grafted a few years ago to enlarge the nebari and will stay there as long as needed.
But you know what is the most impressive, at least for me? This tree was started from a simple seedling. Here is a picture of the same tree in 2010. This bonsai is far from mature, but what a progression in 11 years!
