Prehistoric forests

I did not know what to do with those 20 Ginkgo biloba seedlings, so I decided to create two prehistoric forests. The buds are about to open. The timing is ideal to repot. I remove the soil and trim the roots to establish a flat root base. Here is a first forest containing 14 trees. Here is a second forest containing 5 trees. Time travel into the Mesozoic Ginkgo bilobas appeared 270 million years ago during an era called the permian, 40 million years before the dinosaurs first walked on Earth (to know more, click here)....

Kabudachi using white birch

These one-year-old white birch (Betula papyrifera) saplings are god candidates for a group planting or kabudachi. The young plants are separated in groups ranging between 7 and 9 individuals, combining smaller and larger ones. The forests are planted in 6 inches pots and will grow until the trunks fuse together....
